The Self Help Graphics & Art Board of Directors is excited to announce the promotion of Paulina M. Flores as Executive Director. Paulina began serving as Interim Executive Director in November 2024 and has been a dedicated member of the SHG community for nearly a decade, including nine years on the Board of Directors and service as Board Chair beginning in 2023. A proud Boyle Heights resident, and Danzante she has long championed SHG’s mission to advance Chicana/o/x and Latinx art and culture through community-centered programs.

Her career reflects a deep commitment to collective leadership, strengths-based management, and cultivating healthy organizational cultures anchored in shared purpose and accountability. Paulina’s lived experience and professional practice are rooted in the belief that art and collaboration are powerful tools for social transformation, principles that continue to guide her leadership and advocacy across Los Angeles.

“Self Help Graphics & Art has always been more than an arts organization. It is a movement grounded in community, culture, and creative expression,” said Paulina M. Flores, Executive Director of Self Help Graphics & Art. “I am honored to continue building on that foundation and to help shape a future that uplifts artists, strengthens our neighborhoods, and celebrates the stories that make Los Angeles who we are.”

Join us for a zine making workshop with artist Joan Zamora at the East Los Angeles Library! Explore the art of collage and storytelling through cut, paste, and play. Participants will learn simple zine making techniques using text, drawing, found images, and everyday materials to create personal, expressive zines that celebrate community imagination. All materials provided and all ages welcome.

Join us for a foam block printing workshop inspired by the exhibition Muertos de Print, curated by Kalli Arte Collective. Led by teaching artist Ernesto Vazquez, participants will learn simple relief printing techniques using foam blocks—a fun, accessible process that encourages experimentation with texture, pattern, and composition. This free workshop is for all ages and skill levels. All materials will be provided.

Gloria Westcott and Grace Amemiya are currently working on a documentary titled Chicano Gráfica, which will highlight the legacy of Self Help, focusing on its history  from the 1970s to 1990s! Want to share your Self Help Graphics memorabilia? They are looking for VHS tapes, photography, invitations, visual art, postcards, greeting cards, t-shirts, etc! Anything related to Self Help from the 1970s to 1990s!  All shared items will be returned.

Every year, Self Help Graphics & Art selects an artist or collective to produce a Commemorative Print for its Annual Día de los Muertos season. Prints from previous years are up to 20% off until November 30th!

Produced at SHG’s Professional Printmaking Studio, Commemorative Prints feature artists like Wayne Healy, Eliana Dominguez, Sandy Rodriguez, Melanie Cervantez, Dewey Tafoya, Rosalie Lopez, Sonia Romero, William Acedo, Leo Limon, Patssi Valdez, Victor Rosas, Chaz Bojorquez, Daniel Martin, Ofelia Esparza, Luis Genaro, Poli Marichal, Kalli Arte, Miyo Stevens-Gandara, Amalia Mesa-Bains, and Gabby Claro!
