WE RISE 2022: BY US, FOR US is a series of community-led events that support health and healing across Los Angeles County.

Self Help Graphics & Art is returning as a WE RISE partner, offering free art and wellness programs and workshops throughout May centered around a plant-filled outdoor oasis created by the artists Martha Carrillo, Monica Perez, and Joan Zeta!

Next month our Family Workshop will be part of a Family Wellness Day on May 14 and our Wellness Wednesday will take place on May 18 as part of WE RISE. More details coming soon! Learn more about WE RISE here.

What does it take to get your favorite food on your plate? Grab a bite from local caterers and explore growing our own food, local foraging, and creating healthy and delicious meals in the process at our next Soil Time! at Self Help Graphics & Art, Saturday, May 7 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. All materials will be provided. Tune in on Instagram @SHG1970 for our next Artist Lab: In the Studio on Wednesday, May 11 at 12:30 p.m. PST with Mexican artist, Gabriela González Leal! Gabriela will speak about her art practice and the playful narratives that she creates through sculptural stencils using Mexican monetary paper or molding soccer balls into masks of Ancient American deities.

Register to attend our Open Studio with Kalli Arte on Thursday, April 28 (rescheduled from April 21) and Thursday, May 19, between 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Our monthly Open Studio with Beyond the Press resident artists, Kalli Arte, is the perfect opportunity to meet this clever collective of artists, take a peek at their work in progress and learn about their process. Learn basic printmaking using a stencil or photo process in our DIY Silkscreen Workshop ($30) on Saturday, May 21 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. with Master Printer, Dewey Tafoya! In this class, participants will learn to transfer their designs or photos onto a screen. Prepared screens can be used to print on a variety of surfaces including paper, textiles and clothing.
