Self Help Graphics & Art’s 49th Annual Día de los Muertos Exhibition and Celebration will take place on Saturday, November 5 from 4:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.!

We encourage you to dress up in your favorite Día de los Muertos fashion and take part in a community walking procession led by local Aztec dancers from Danza Chicomecoatl, at 4:00 p.m. (meet up at 3:30 p.m.), from Mariachi Plaza to Self Help Graphics. 

Our 49th Annual Celebration’s main stage will feature DJs LABellatini and VFresh, plus live performances by Brainstory, Spaghetti Cumbia, La Mera Calendaria, and more, co-curated by The Paramount and Self Help Graphics.

Shop cultural makers at our beloved Muertos Market, from artisans and artists, to printmakers and designers. Come hungry and support our street food vendors too! Enjoy seasonal pan de muerto from our team and the flavors of our neighborhood prepared by local street food vendors, in a special partnership with select members of Vendedores en Acción; advocating for an equitable future for street food vendors in Los Angeles. #SHGDOD

CALAQUITA LOWRIDER MODEL WORKSHOP

On Thursday, October 13 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., Kalli Arte will lead a Calaquita Lowrider Model Workshop ($30) to build miniature models of cars and their calcaca drivers out of pre-designed linocut prints. Participants are encouraged to cut, paint and embellish their lowriders to include in a personal Day of the Dead altar. Space is limited. Register on Eventbrite here.

WELLNESS WEDNESDAY:
ANCESTOR PORTRAITS WORKSHOP

Create a portrait of an ancestor during our Día de Los Muertos season as part of our free monthly Wellness Wednesday workshop, October 19, from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Led by artist Dalila Paola Méndez, the workshop will begin with a guided meditation and sharing circle to create a safe space for remembrance. Participants will bring a photo of their loved ones and embellish the photo of their loved one using collage and mixed media.

All portraits created during the workshop can be displayed in Self Help Graphics’ community altar or taken home for one’s personal altar. No previous experience is necessary. This workshop is recommended for ages 15+. Learn more here.

NOCHE DE OFRENDA RETURNS HOME
TO SELF HELP GRAPHICS

NDO honors the ancestors in a contemplative evening with live poetry and music, surrounded by numerous altars produced by artists and community partners, including SHG Legacy Artists and Master Altar Makers, Ofelia Esparza and Rosanna Esparza Ahrens (Tonalli Studio). Visitors are invited to share memories of their loved ones by contributing photos to the Community Altar.
