We continue to find ways to move forward, supporting each other, supporting artists, and tending to the spaces we call home. HELP US REHOUSE OUR 1ST ST. PLANTS!

As we continue remodeling our 1st Street building, Self Help Graphics is working with Nolan Eskeets (Diné Nation; certified nursery professional and native plant landscaper) to carefully excavate and transplant our garden there. While SHG will keep some plants, we will need to rehome most of them.

We’d love to give cuttings of our Opuntia and Pachycereus plants to YOU, our community! Come through and help us give our beautiful plantitas new homes. 🌱

On these two days, Nolan will help folks learn how to successfully transplant the cuttings into their homes.

Please bring gloves and a blanket or container for transporting your plants. Big thanks to the Chief Ya’anna Learning Village in Northeast LA for loaning us the tools for this project!

SHG YOUTH PROGRAMS: 2025 YOUTH ARTIVIST MUTUAL AID FUNDRAISER SUCCESS

Last month marked the conclusion of our 2025 Youth Artivist internship program and their fundraiser project, “Raíces Sin Fronteras: Amar, Crecer, Luchar”. We are proud to share that our Artivistas have raised more than $2,000 to support Eastside LEADS coalition members—local residents facing legal fees and loss of income as a result of recent ICE raids in Los Angeles. These funds will go towards covering basic basic necessities such as rent and groceries.

We are so proud of our Artivists’ efforts, and a big thank you to everyone who supported our youth and their fundraising!

ARTIST OPPORTUNITY: THE CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION’S FELLOWSHIP FOR VISUAL ARTISTS

The California Community Foundation invites applications for their prestigious Fellowship for Visual Artists, which offers a $40,000 unrestricted cash grant, professional development programming, career coaching, and a curated museum exhibit at Craft Contemporary for LA County based visual artists with 5 years of residency in the County. Application closes on March 1 at 11:59 PM.

Interested applicants are invited to attend one of two virtual workshops to discuss the application process and ask questions.
