Calling on all artists, community members, and individuals interested in keeping SHG’s histories alive! Share your SHG memorabilia from the 1970s to the 1990s. If selected, your memorabilia will be showcased in the documentary film Chicano Gráfica, which chronicles the legacy and global impact of Self Help Graphics and its artists.

Filmmakers Gloria Westcott and Grace Amemiya are looking for VHS tapes, photography, invitations, visual art, postcards, greeting cards, t-shirts, performances/videos, music, records, CDs, or other similar items from the 1970s to the 1990s. All items will be returned.

Join us for “DIY Journal Making”, an art workshop led by artist and printmaker Victor Rosas! Discover the craft of creating unique journals using recycled materials, encouraging sustainability, artistry, and the DIY ethos. This hands-on workshop is for all ages and experience levels. REFLECTING ON RADICAL HISTORIES: CHICANO PRINTS FROM THE SMITHSONIAN AMERICAN ART MUSEUM

Radical Histories: Chicano Prints from the Smithsonian American Art Museum closed on Monday March 2, 2026.

The West coast debut of the exhibition features a reflection and reading space, where viewers can access books such as ¡Printing the Revolution! The Rise and Impact of Chicano Graphics, 1965 to Now, which features the 119 works drawn from The Smithsonian American Museums’s leading collection of Latinx art that informed this exhibition, and Self Help Graphics at Fifty: A Cornerstone of Latinx Art and Collaborative Artmaking, a historical perspective of SHG from its founding in 1970 to the 2020s.

Because so many of the prints in this exhibition were created at Self Help Graphics or by artists from our community, reading visitors’ reflections has been emotional and empowering.

PURCHASE MELISSA GOVEA’S PRINT AT THE SHG SHOP

A print version of Melissa Govea’s fabric-based triptych ‘Pachuco Pieta’, part of her installation on view at Radical Histories: Chicano Prints from the Smithsonian American Art Museum, is now available as a print!

As you know, The Huntington, in collaboration with Self Help Graphics & Art, commissioned Melissa to create a mural for the West Coast debut of the exhibition. The installation features the mural ‘Sangre Indigena’, the triptych ‘Pachuco Pieta’, as well as other works that highlight the artist’s signature political hand-painted and mixed-media style.

In regards to ‘Pachuco Pieta’, Govea says: “I wanted to make this triptych as a homage to Michelangelo's Pietà. The image of a mother holding her child mirrors iconic poses, but it's recontextualized within our cultural memory, and it shows the deep respect for our community and our culture. It prompts viewers to see who gets remembered and who gets mourned. In this image, a mother is holding her child, and they're dressed in pachuco attire to touch on the Zoot Suit riots of the era. I wanted them to have zoot suits—that was one of the main focuses, and her hair being a pompadour adorned with a veil, like Mary does.”

FRAME THE FUTURE: LA’S HOUSING MANIFESTO AND POSTER COMPETITION

Friends Of Residential Treasures (FORT) Los Angeles invites designers, architects, artists, writers, students, and creatives to express their progressive visions for LA’s housing future through a poster! Create an inspiring, engaging, and catalyzing poster (24”x36” - PDF -portrait format) that communicates a transformative housing future for LA! Submissions should include the poster design, a slogan for your vision, and a manifesto (max 500 words) that outlines the principles, goals, and dreams behind the concept.

The submitted posters and a curated selection of finalists and winners will be highlighted in an exhibition at the historic Ebell of Los Angeles on Wednesday April 29 from 5-9 PM.

Involved organizations include KCRW, the Charles & Ray Eames Foundation, the LA chapter of the American Institute of Architects, cityLAB-UCLA, and others.

This competition will award the first place winner $3000, second place winner $1500, and third place winner $500.

The submission deadline is Tuesday March 31, 2026, 11:59 PM PST.
