We cannot wait to see you at our 48th Annual Día de los Muertos Celebration this Saturday, October 30 from 4:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. *in-person at Self Help Graphics & Art– always free and family friendly! SHG is located at 1300 E. 1st St. Los Angeles, CA. 90033, in the neighborhood of Boyle Heights. We’ll have live entertainment, plus shop our Muertos Market with more than a dozen cultural makers and artists, experience our exhibition, altars, plus taste incredible food by local street vendors, in partnership with Vendedores en Acción, to celebrate the season in community! Special guests will also include Senator Maria Elena Durazo (24th District), Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (53rd District) and Councilmember Kevin de León (14th District). Street parking is extremely limited. Please carpool, use a rideshare app or take public transit, such as the Metro L Line (formerly Gold Line) to the Pico/Aliso station. We are located directly across the street from the Metro L Line Pico/Aliso station and Mendez High School. *Please note that masks will be required for all who participate in all of our in-person offerings (indoors and outside), including vaccinated visitors; in compliance with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

The countdown is on as we begin our Día de los Muertos festivities with our Car Caravan at 3:00 p.m. from East LA Civic Center (meet up at 2:00 p.m.); as well as our annual Walking Procession at 4:00 pm from Mariachi Plaza to Self Help Graphics (meet up at 3:30 p.m.)! Joining the walking procession or car caravan? We encourage you and your family to dress festively in your favorite Día de los Muertos fashion or turn your car into a mobile altar and cruise with your amigxs from East LA Civic Center, down Whittier Blvd, to Mariachi Plaza, with our final stop at SHG! P.S. Is biking your thing? Register for our Bike Ofrenda Workshop and Caravan on Saturday, November 6, led by Artist Sandra de la Loza, with fellow artists!

Archer Oh is a surfy indie/garage band. The band is made up by Pedro Hernandez, Juan Cabrera, Diego Jacuinde, and Arturo “Archie” Medrano. With their large sound and energetic live shows, the four have gained a loyal and supportive following and made their steady climb through the DIY scenes of Souther California and the Southwest. With their latest release ‘Dianthus’ the groups future looks very bright. |

Introverted Funk is a duo formed in Los Angeles produced and arranged by analog lovers, P.B. and Vero. Their music involves a nostalgic, yet futuristic feel in the Alternative Funk/Rnb/Neo Soul/Latin Realm. Vero coming from the Bay Area, and P.B. from South Central Los Angeles, fuse West Coast flavors to create what is known as Introverted Funk. Ever-evolving, The Mumfees are a two-piece group made up of friends Alexander Zepeda and Maggie Mae Danielle. Influenced by the sentimental pastiche of their hometown of Las Vegas, the duo create alternative pop music that rides the line between tongue in cheek swagger and shimmering vulnerability while pulling from a glittery chest of genres. |

Thank you to everyone who supported our Noche de Ofrenda (night of altars), produced in partnership with Grand Park‘s Downtown Día de los Muertos, last Saturday, October 23. The altars will remain on view at the park through Tuesday, November 2. Grand Park is located at 200 N Grand Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90012. This year’s installations are located between Hill Street and Grand Avenue. Masks are required. The park is wheelchair accessible. Learn more here. |
