Thanks to over five years of Invest in Youth advocacy efforts, led by Legacy LA and youth leaders of Boyle Heights, the Invest in Youth Coalition is closer to its goal to create a Youth Development Department in the City of Los Angeles.

On February 26, 2019, the Los Angeles City Economic Development Committee voted on a motion to establish a task force that will develop a blueprint for a youth development department. The youth leaders participated in public comment in favor of a Youth Development Taskforce in front of council members and the committee approved to move the motion to a full City Council vote on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.

The need for a Youth Development Department is vital. Los Angeles spends significantly less than most cities on youth. Learn more about Invest in Youth Coalition and join the movement here.
