Curatorial Walkthrough and Panel Discussion: Monarchs & Migration

  • LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes 501 N Main St Los Angeles, CA, 90012 United States (map)

Join us for a curatorial walkthrough and panel discussion of Monarchs and Migration: Honoring Our Immigrant Legacies, an exhibition that explores migration as both a natural phenomenon and a deeply human experience.

Moderated by curator Consuelo G. Flores, the panel discussion will bring together artists whose work confronts the realities of migration, both along the journey to the United States and after their arrival. Their reflections will address the persecution, imprisonment, deportation to countries other than one’s country of origin, and loss of life that migrants may experience, bringing visibility to stories that are too often overlooked or unheard.

The conversation will also honor artists and members of our community who we lost and whose creative contributions, spirit, and influence remain deeply present in the lives and work of those they leave behind. Through these tributes, the exhibition connects the experience of migration with the universal journeys of memory, grief, transformation, and remembrance.

Together, the walkthrough and discussion will create space for passion, truth, reflection, and meaningful engagement—a gathering that acknowledges hardship and loss while celebrating life, honoring our shared histories, and recognizing the people whose journeys have shaped our own.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:

Monarchs and Migration explores both the natural reality of migration and humanity’s response to it—from butterflies to family journeys, the burden immigrants carry as they travel toward an unknown and often hostile future. Together, these works consider human movement as natural, constant and perilous. This exhibition is also about remembering and honoring our dead and the impact each has made on those left behind, acknowledging that they too have traveled into an unknown land.
