Self Help Graphics at America Today: A Panel Discussion

Thursday June 18, 2026 | 6-7:15 PM

Los Angeles Central Library | The Mark Taper Auditorium
630 W. Fifth St., Los Angeles, CA 90071

Join Self Help Graphics & Art and The Print Center for a panel discussion on America Today: Voices in Contemporary Print, an exhibition on view at The Print Center in Philadelphia from April 24, 206 to July 25, 2026.

Moderated by Lauren Rosenblum, The Print Center's Jensen Bryan Curator, this panel discussion will include panelists Dewey Tafoya, Lead Printer at Self Help Graphics, as well as artists Consuelo G. Flores and Álvaro D. Máquez, whose artworks are featured in the exhibition.

Organized around the nation’s 250th anniversary, America Today illuminates the connections between printmaking and issues of civic life, inviting viewers to reflect on the state of American democracy. The exhibition features recent prints by six mission-based print shops: Self Help Graphics & Art, Los Angeles, CA; Brandywine Workshop, Philadelphia, PA; Coronado Printstudio, Austin, TX; Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts, Pendleton, OR; EFA Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, New York, NY; and the Women’s Studio Workshop, Kingston, NY.

The Self Help Graphics artists included in this show are Consuelo Flores, Luis-Genaro García , Melissa Govea, Priscilla Hernandez, José Lozano, and Álvaro  D. Márquez. All of their works invite urgent conversations about agency, equity, and state violence. All of these works were printed at Self Help Graphic’s Professional Printmaking Studio. The panel discussion will discuss these works, the exhibition, and more.
